Pride in action: Why inclusion matters at Yara

By prioritizing a diverse and inclusive work environment, Yara is investing in its greatest strength – its people. We believe this approach paves the way for a brighter future, not just for Yara, but for society as a whole.

“Pride at Yara is about much more than visibility for one month of the year. It is about creating an environment where people feel psychologically safe, respected, and empowered to contribute fully as themselves. I am proud to see colleagues and allies across Yara helping build a culture where diversity is valued not despite our differences, but because of them.”

Edson Lopes, Global Pride Lead, Yara

At Yara, we believe that people perform at their best when they feel safe, respected, and empowered to be themselves. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) are one of the foundational pillars of our People Agenda.

As Pride Month is celebrated around the world, we reaffirm our commitment to building a workplace where everyone - regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression - feels seen, valued, and included.

In a global environment where conversations around DEI are becoming increasingly polarized, Yara continues to stand firmly behind its people and values. For us, inclusion is not a trend or a campaign. It is part of how we build trust, strengthen collaboration, and create an environment where innovation can thrive.

As a company operating across more than 60 countries and cultures, we recognize that experiences related to LGBTQIA+ inclusion differ significantly around the world. In some places, progress continues to advance. In others, individuals still face discrimination, exclusion, or even legal risks for simply being who they are. This reality reinforces why inclusion, psychological safety, and allyship matter.

At Yara, we believe every employee deserves the opportunity to contribute fully without fear of discrimination or exclusion.

Inclusion is about people - and business

Creating an inclusive workplace is not only the right thing to do; it is essential for building resilient, high-performing organizations.

When people feel psychologically safe, they are more likely to share ideas, collaborate openly, challenge assumptions, and contribute to innovation. Diverse perspectives strengthen decision-making, improve engagement, and help organizations better reflect the communities and customers they serve.

Our commitment to DEI is embedded into how we develop leaders, support teams, and shape our culture globally. This includes non-discrimination commitments, inclusive people practices, employee education, leadership accountability, and Employee Resource Groups that foster connection and belonging.

Creating awareness, safety, and visibility

Through the “Yara Pride Network”, our global Pride Employee Resource Group, employees and allies come together to help build a more equitable workplace for LGBTQIA+ colleagues.

The network focuses on three core ambitions:

  • Creating awareness through education and dialogue
  • Ensuring safety and psychological inclusion
  • Promoting visibility and representation across the organization

By creating spaces for conversation, storytelling, allyship, and learning, the Pride Network helps foster a culture where employees can bring more of themselves to work and feel supported in doing so.

"In today’s world, where inclusion is sometimes questioned or deprioritized, continuing to stand for equity and belonging matters even more. We know that innovation, collaboration, and strong leadership can only thrive when people feel safe to speak up, share perspectives, and be authentic," shares Edson.

A global commitment

At Yara, we understand that inclusion is a continuous journey. We do not claim to have all the answers, but we are committed to listening, learning, and evolving together.

Pride Month is both a celebration and a reminder: while progress has been made, many LGBTQIA+ individuals around the world still experience barriers, prejudice, and invisibility. Companies have an important role to play in shaping workplaces where dignity, respect, and belonging are not conditional.

For Yara, standing behind Pride means standing behind our people.

Growing a more inclusive future

At Yara, we are committed to growing not only a more sustainable food future, but also a workplace culture where people can grow, belong, and thrive together.

Because inclusion is not separate from business success, it is central to it.
